Shifting a farm… — Lengthy Island CSA Farm Shares

Who strikes a complete farm?  Apparently, we do!

Maybe it wasn’t the perfect concept to suppose that we might transfer our whole farm operation ourselves, however that is simply what we did final season.  As you understand, we suspended our CSA for the 2023 season whereas we bodily moved each tractor, each piece of equipment, each pump, irrigation pipe and 30 years of accrued farm “stuff” to our new farmland.  We concurrently constructed a model new packing barn, a greenhouse, and grew all of the winter share greens for this previous 12 months’s winter CSA. It was a trial to see what rising could be like on this new soil and local weather and we had been blown away by the superb yields we had been capable of get from the land.  Rising on Lengthy Island soils is mainly rising in sand.  The soil right here in Vermont is the consistency of brownie batter – deep, wealthy, and stuffed with vitamins.

Listed here are some photographs of our new land and the infrastructure tasks we took on.  We’re 95% completed, awaiting some remaining electrical hook-ups, and able to tackle the season forward!  We’re additionally very excited to be bringing again our great staff by way of the H2-A Visa program, a few of whom have been working for us since our first years farming.  Having our farm “household” working with us on this new land is a blessing.

Thanks to all of you who’ve supported our farm through the years and who waited patiently for our CSA to return this season…we’re so excited to be again!
